In-house jobs
Copy Editor
Culture Trip, London/remote

Nov 2021– Mar 2022

Member of a busy remote copy desk responsible for editing and maintaining the Culture Trip website. Key tasks: building and editing bookable travel content and inspirational travel articles in WordPress; SEO maintenance to improve performance of key articles; copy-editing branded content for third-party clients. This agile role required me to liaise with other in-house teams, and pivot daily between web production and copy-editing to increase the click-through rate for bookable content.

Commissioning Editor
RotoVision, Quarto, Brighton

Aug 2014– Sep 2017

My role at this renowned design publisher was to generate new book ideas (60+ per annum) and build a list of commercially viable titles.  This required close knowledge of market trends and tastes, and the ability to inspire and drive the rest of the in-house creative team. This was a high-pressure job involving critical deadlines that revolved around the needs of co-publishers, global book fairs and busy authors. I was responsible for discovering and negotiating with new, high calibre authors, maintaining good relations with existing authors, and developing their creative talents to produce eye-catching sample book presentations. I helped to develop visual concepts, organize photoshoots, image research, flatplan, commission illustrations and create content. I worked out how to expand these presentations into well-executed live books, with a keen awareness of co-edition challenges.
